Christianity's Purpose
Many people want to think that Christianity is just another cult or way for people to be controlled. What
they don't know is the real meaning and purpose of Christianity. This purpose is described in the Gospels
written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These books in the Bible
detail the life of Jesus Christ; the Son of God and the savior of all mankind.
The Bible is compiled of two sections; the Old Testament & the New Testament. The
Old Testament details the
creation of the universe and everything inside of it. It then talks about the fall of man and the sin brought
upon us. Throughout this sin and evil, God is guiding the humans through living a less sinful life. Some fail,
some succeed. But this section of the Bible is used to show how we came to be, and to show who God is. The
New Testament is a detailing of the Son of God, Jesus. This man is thought by many to be a great
prophet, but the
Bible teaches us different. Jesus
Christ declares many times that he is God "in the flesh". Now this was all
prophecied in the Old Testament (which was written hundereds of years prior). This link is what truly makes
the Bible so unique and authentic.
So the purpose of Christianity is to bring the humans back to loyalty to God. God did this by coming down to
Earth in the flesh. Jesus Christ is thought to be just a human and great Disciple
of God. But Jesus claims different, and was killed for it. Now the validity of these claims is a different
topic that can be researched; but the the Christian faith is based on Jesus being God in human form. Jesus
Christ was a perfect man who did not sin. Because of Jesus's sinless life, he was the sacrifice for all of
humanity and a gift from God. The death of Jesus Christ washed away our old lives and is meant to save our
souls. So the Bible teaches us that if you put your faith in God & Jesus, and ask God for forgiveness, you
will have eternal life after death in heaven.
There is a lot more to Christianity than what is described here, but this is the main take away. Everyone is
a sinner, but God has sent his son as a sacrifice for our sins. If you give your trust to him and ask for
forgiveness, he will forgive. It is important to research the Bible on your own and learn more about the
teachings of Jesus and his life.
Acceptance
There is a common thinking that Christianity is not accepting of different kinds of people. This could be
far
from the truth. One idea is that only white people are able to be Christians; this is quickly debunked when
you find out the origins of Christianity derive from the Middle
East. Another misconception is that
Christianity is unaccepting of LGBTQ. This comes from the Bible referencing the acts of homosexuality and
such
as a sin. But
people seem to forget that every human sins, and no one group is more or less important to
God.
LGBTQ members are able to be Christians, but they must be willing to accept they are sinning and try to
change
their ways.
The video shown here talks about how we are made to be in heterosexual relationships. This doesn't mean gay
people are worth any less than heterosexuals. All this means is homosexuality is a sin just like any other.
The video is already at the main point, but you can look through the whole thing if you want.
Verses that talk about diversity & acceptance:
1 John 1:9
Romans 5:8
Colossians 3:12
1 Peter 1:14
Acts 2:38
John 3:3
The idea that your race is a factor in whether you can be saved is simply wrong; based completely on
individual racism and evil cultural views. The limited acceptance of LGBTQ members seen in many “Christians”
derives from a misunderstanding of the Bible. Some people simply think we must not sin and be perfect beings
to inherit God’s gift of salvation. The fact of the matter is that God always accepts you if you turn your
life to Christ and accept his wisdom and guidance to a less-sinful life. We are called to love everyone; and
pray
for them to overcome sin.
Values & Morals
By now you might know some key values that a Christian is called to have. A very big part is love; which is
found numerous times in the Bible. Love is something that is said to “cover a multitude of sins”. This is
because love is a true and genuine emotion that can lift many souls up and encourage many. Love represents
loyalty, trust, affection, respect, etc.
Verses that talk about love:
Colossians 3:14
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
1 John 4:7-8
1 Peter 4:8
Ephesians 4:2
Another major value is faith.
Faith makes up almost 90% of Christianity; having our
salvation relying
directly on Jesus and his sacrifice for us. Faith in God is how a Christian lives their day to day lives. We
are told to trust the Lord with all of our hearts; and because of this he will protect and ensure we will
follow his will. Faith in the Lord will drive us to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Verses that talk about faith:
Luke 1:37
Hebrews 11:6
Proverbs 3:5-6
2 Corinthians 5:7
Philippians 4:13
1 John 5:4
Ephesians 6:16
John 3:36
Peace is something that we all wish
could
be natural. The sad truth is that true peace on earth will most
likely never happen. But that doesn't mean we cant strive to bring some amount of peace and harmony. The Bible
tells us to be kind to each other, and to treat everyone with respect. Peace isn't just about other people
though; it can bring safety and assurance to individuals as well. Trusting in God will give you someone to
lean on and give your issues to. God gives us peace by limiting our worry and anxiety. Many people who
struggle with depression and other mental disorders find their peace from God.
Verses that talk about peace:
John 16:33
Romans 12:18
Colossians 3:15
Philippians 4:6-7
Matthew 6:34
2 Timothy 1:7
Isaiah 41:10
Proverbs 3:5
